Mike—Thanks for replying to my post so quickly. I have reviewed your earlier posts (and those of other contributors) on this site and note that you said on 12/8/05: “I posted them all on this site and I came to the conclusion that Humphrey son of Edmund, baptised in Upholland in the Parish of Wigan in 1607 was the Humphrey that went to America. Not everyone agrees with me.” While there was indeed a Humphrey Atherton baptized at Upholland in 1607, I don’t see any evidence (unless somehow I missed it) that this was the man who emigrated to New England. And how do we know “the names of his parents, when his father died, where the family lived, the name of the House they lived in, who his paternal grandparents were, who his Pastor in England was?” You state that “Much of this has been posted in my earlier notes on this site," but I cannot find any published or original sources in your posts for any of this information. Can you refer me to specific posts (by date) or specific sources you may have discovered?
I have been doing genealogy for the past 35 years and have often been frustrated by claims for the ancestry of early New Englanders that later turned out to be bogus. Now I look for hard evidence before including a line in my family history. I would be delighted to learn of such hard evidence for the parents or ancestors of Humphrey Atherton.
