This information is exactly the kind of thing I am looking for, and it does make it probable that the Humphrey Atherton, of Upholland is the Humphrey Atherton who emigrated to New England. It will help me in looking for further confirmation of this. Thanks for sending it to me.
The IGI lists a "Humphra Atherton," bpt. September 4, 1607 (Upholland, Lancashire), son of Edmund Atherton; and this information comes from "The Registers of the Church of St. Thomas the Martyr, Upholland, in the County of Lancaster: christenings, burials, and weddings, 1600-1735," transcribed and edited by Alice Brierley (Rochdale [Lancashire]: Printed for the Lancashire Parish Record Society by James Clegg, 1905)
