Greg, I saw your listing for information on Athey-Turners of West Virginia.I know your entry is a couple of years old, so I hope you are still interested in sharing information on the above.
I have been researching the various branches of my family for a few years now and am just getting to this branch. I know very little about this group of ancestors and was interested when I saw your reference.
My paternal grandmother, Atha Jane (Turner) Hollingsworth was born Atha Jane Athey in 1893 in West Virginia. If the story I have is correct (all those with first hand knowledge are long dead) she was illegitimate at birth, her mother having her by a man named James Athey (or Athy). Her mother subsequently married a man named Turner who was or became constable somewhere in the Edwight area. James Athey, as the story my father told me goes, was a Cherokee Indian and if you look at pictures of my Grandmother, she does seem to have some Indian-like features. She died in 1973 at age 80.
I don't know if any of this helps as an introduction, but if you can provide any information that might relate to any of these people, I would greatly appreciate it.My oldest brother may have more information on this branch than I do.
Looking forward to your response.
Regards,
Mike Hollingsworth
