Robin, You may want to check the Baylis surname postings. There was a very influencial family named the Earles who moved from VA to Spartanburg, SC area in the late 1700's.There were actually three brothers, Baylis Earle (a judge) who moved to Spartanburg, John Earle to Greenville area and Elias Earle to the same area. I think that's right though I do know that Baylis Earle went to Spartanburg. His daughter Rhoda married into my Clark family lines of Spartanburg Co.Why I mention them is that this whole family, and the Clark family, tended to use this former Baylis surname as a first name for many of their children. There is a book available on this Earle family that I saw posted. It may also be in some of the Greenville and Spartanburg, SC area libraries. It is called "The Venturers - The Hampton, Harrison and Earle Families of Virginia, South Carolina and Texas" by Virginia G. Meynard, Southern Historical Press.ISBN 0-89308-214-4, Lib. of Congress card #81-83640.They noted that this book is available from: The Southern Historical Press, Inc. PO Box 1267 Greenville, SC29602-1267 #FH 14 @ $55.00 ea. 1-800-233-0152
This info was posted by Mr. Ed Nock and descendant of the Earles.
