I need help in determining who ALAMINE ATKINS
is in the 1851 Will of John Brown - Will Book B, page 354, Anderson Co., SC Recorded August 22, 1853.
This John Brown (writer of the will) was married to a Mary Bell. She died in 1846.
Both are buried in the First Presbyterian
Churchyard, Anderson, SC.
He names his Daughter Hannah Smith, wife of
Robert Smith, his Son Joseph Brown, having been removed by Death, as also his wife, Mary Brown and they having left five children, viz. Susan B. Brown, Eliab Brown, Nancy Brown, John Brown, and Samuel Brown.; Daughter Nancy Moore, Son Robert B. Brown.
Then, two paragraphs that are rather puzzling as to Catharine Lefroy (now Catharine George) (mother of son John Brown), and an ALAMINE ATKINS (children William Penn Brown, Jane Czarena Brown, Martha Ann Brown, and Elvira Brown).
He states, "Sixth, I give and bequeath to
John Brown, a Son of Catharine Lefroy (now Catharine George) a Negro Girle named Mary,
(a child of Anna's)....
Seventh, I give and bequeath to the four children of ALAMINE ATKINS, viz. William Penn
Brown, Jane Czarena Brown, Martha Ann Brown,
and Elvira Brown, All of my household and kitchen furniture, of all and Every Kind whatsoever.
Eighth, I give and bequeath to William Penn Brown, Son of ALAMINE ATKINS, one male Slave, named Jerry, about twenty-seven of age."
Then, he names more of his children....
Son Daniel Brown, Daughter Hannah Smith, Son Samuel Brown, children of Son Joseph Brown,
Daughter, Nancy Moore, Son Robert B. Brown,
Daughter, Elizabeth Smith.
He appoints James Gilmer and James Gunnin as the Executors of his last will and testament dated on the 18th of November 1851.
Complete excerpt of Will can be viewed
on Message #15115 Brown Family Genealogy Forum.
On the 1850 Census of Anderson Co. SC listed in household of John Brown, age 79, is Elmina Brown 45, William Penn Brown 11, Czarena Brown 9, Martha Ann Brown 8, Elvira Brown 6, and John Brown 21.
Thanks for any help or clue in determining
what relationship Alamine Atkins is to
John Brown, and the relationship of her son,
William Penn Brown to John Brown.
