Honey Jean Atkins, 70, of La Quinta died Jan. 19, 2003, in La Quinta.
She was born March 6, 1932, to Anthony Shelvis, in Chicago.She married Robert C. Atkins in 1975, in San Diego.
She was a supervisor with Pacific Bell for 25 years. She was a member of the La Quinta Arts Foundation, La Quinta Historical Society, Roundtable West Founder, La Quinta On Stage, La Quinta Cultural Commission, La Quinta Chamber of Commerce, the Friends of La Quinta Library and the Citrus Country Club.
She is survived by her husband, Robert C. of La Quinta; two daughters, Dana A. Fier of Costa Mesa and Mary Clare L. Perry of Brea; five sons, Brett James of Santa Ana, Cary W. of Placentia, Dean W. of Rancho Cucamonga, Christopher A. of Orange and Patrick L. of Brea; her sister, Darlyn Davenport of San Diego; two brothers, Steve Shelvis of San Diego and Anthony Shelvis of Virginia; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Coachella Valley Cemetery, with FitzHenry Funeral Home Indio in charge of arrangements.The family suggests memorials be made to the Desert Chapter of American Cancer Society.
