On a recent trip to Stewart County, TN, I learned that Brenda Summers, the librarian in Dover had just received bible pages from a lady in Nashville showing the family of William S. Atkins and his wife Lucy:
Nancy S. Atkins (14 Aug 1815) James John Atkins (11 Aug 1816) Elizabeth S. Atkins (13 Jan 1818) Name not legible (born c.1819) Lewis G. Atkins (21 Apr 1821) John B. Atkins (29 Oct 1822) Susan Atkins (9 Oct 1824) Lucy Atkins (5 Aug 1826)
Stewart Co. deeds show that William S. (5 Jul 1794 Anson Co., NC - 10 Oct 1871)and Richard S. Atkins were sons of Rev War vet Lewis Atkins. Lewis was born on 10 Apr 1756 in Prince Edward Co., VA, but entered the Rev War from Anson Co., NC. He and his brother John Atkins, Sr., moved their families to Stewart County about 1807. Lewis and his son Richard S. moved from Stewart to Henry County about 1826 and Lewis applied for his pension there in 1832. A copy of his application is on file in the Paris, TN, library in the Atkins Family folder. William S. Atkins lived out his life in Stewart County.
