Hi -
Do the names Isabel, Agnes or Jean show up in your family? Those were the daughters of John Auchincloss & Jean Lyle, who were born in, respectively, 1782, 1792 and 1785/1796 (there were 2 Jeans.)John also had two daughters, Janet and Mary, by his first wife, Mary Marshall, who were born in 1771 and 1772.
This information comes from a discussion, on Page 57 of The Auchincloss Family Tree (see the last paragraph below), of the earlier Scots history of the family, including a listing of 9 children for John and Jean. They had 5 boys as well as the 4 girls, one of whom, Hugh, obligingly came to New York in 1803 to found the New York/New England branch of the family.William S. Auchincloss (1842-1928) did the research and although the book doesn't give the source of his information, it's probably reliable. He was Hugh's grandson, an engineer and an all-over reliable sort.
I'm happy to scan & email the page to you. However, the family tree book (John and Elizabeth (Buck) Auchincloss; Their Descendants and Their Ancestry [a/k/a The Auchincloss Family Tree],by Joanna R. Auchincloss & Caroline A. Fowler, pub. 1957, Dingley Press, Freeport, Maine) has been reprinted recently and is listed for $13.46 on Alibris.com (book ID # 9155670778).That's affordable. However, I'm still happy to send it to you.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Sophie Truslow
