Re: Aulbach Family US & Germany 1850 to 2000
I am sorry I did not reply sooner, but this is the first chance I have had to do any work on the family for some time. I am currently away from my home, but I do have an address in Frankfurt and a name that I would like to try to follow up. It is just unfortunate that I did not know this information in the early 1990's as I spent quite a bit of time in Frankfurt and Obernau/Aschaffenburg. I have some very good friends in Aschaffenburg, Klaus and Helga Polcher. When I return to Boston in a week or so I will send the name and address of the last known realative in Frankfurt.
I do know this, John George Aulbach was born in Frankfurt in 1821. He married Mary Cecilia Frank born January 31, 1832 in Frankfurt, prior to leaving for America through we believe Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and on to Ontario, Canada. They traveled with John's two brothers, of whom we have no information at this time. On the ship Mary Cecilia gave birth to Amiel Aulbach their first son. They settled in Erie, in Ontario, Canada where John died in 1877 of pneumonia. Mary and the 10 children then moved to Millbrook, Michigan where much of the family has remained. The children were all raised Roman Catholic, so we assume they were Catholic when they left Germany, however, there is a rumor that there may have been a jewish tie somewhere, perhaps in Mary Cecilia. I have been unable to substantiate that and since her name is very christian (two Catholic saints) I suspect they were always catholic. I will add more info when I return home.
