Was born in Australia July 11, 1848, and resided there till 1860, when he came to California and settled in San Mateo county. He was engaged there in driving stage for three years. In 1869 he moved to Nevada county, and followed the same occupation. In 1871 he went to Santa Rosa, where he continued in the stage driving business until 1877, when he came to Mendocino and located at his present place, where he is engaged in keeping a hotel. He was married in November, 1877, to Mrs. Mary Nolan Aurin, widow of J. W. Aurin. They have one child, Charles V., born August 22, 1878. Mrs. Brereton has two children by her former marriage.
