I stumbled on this site, and I'm intrigued that there are other Aurins looking for family history.I'm afraid I can't be much help to the Tennessee folks with anything. Here's what I know about my branch of the Aurin family.
My father's name was George H. Aurin, born in St. Louis in 1913.
His father's name was also George Aurin, born in St. Louis, I presume, but I don't know what year. The late 1880s would be a good bet.
Mygreat grandfather died in St. Louis in 1954.I never knew his name.
George, my grandfather, and his wife (Alma Erler) were married in St. Louis in 1910.There seems to have been some sort of a rift in the family over my grandfather's marriage, so I have very little family information.I remember from childhood hearing stories that people thought the Aurin name was originally French, but everyone was definitely German speaking by the time they came to the U.S.There was also an unsubstantiated rumor that an ancestor had been in the French army under Napoleon and he had moved to Alsase-Lauraine after Waterloo which was then in German hands (hence the German connection) before immigrating to the U.S.It's probably just a self-aggrandizing rumor, but it was definitely a story that was told by my grandmother.
Anyway, if there's anything I can look up on my next trip to St. Louis I'd be happy to hear back. Also, if anyone knows more about the St. Louis branch, I'd appreciate an email.
