Avarne as a given name in 19th century Lancashire/Staffordhire

By Pete Dale January 02, 2007 at 07:07:24

'Avarne' is a very frequent given name in one branch of my ancestry during the 19th century.I have found it first in Abbots Bromley in Staffordshire dating from a birth in 1813, but all five children (both boys and girls) of that family were given the name; It does not seem to have come from the father, and I don't know the mother's maiden name, but the universal use seems to suggest that one of them may have descended from a recent (surname) Avarne. There were at least 3 generations given the name in this way, although not so frequently.

The original parents are William and Louisa Sanders, born around 1790, and Abbotts Bromley isn't a million miles from Leicestershire!

If any one has any information it would be more than welcome!
