Re: Frank Avery, Saginaw, Michigan
In regards to Frank Avery and Estella Edwards.Frank Avery's parents were William Smith Avery and Mary Rockwell.William went by his middle name "Smith".Frank's sister was Elizabeth Avery who married Orrin Edwards.Orrin's parents were James W Edwards and Eunice Bullock.Frank, Elizabeth, Orrin, were all born in Stratford, Fulton Co. New York.Sometime after 1860 the Edwards family migrated to Saginaw Michigan.Frank Avery married Orrin's sister Rexivlle/Estella Edwards. ( brother and sisters married) Estella died from childbirth as the baby died too. After her death Frank went back to New York.I believe I found him around the town of Ilion, Herkimer Co., NY.Don't know where that paper is right now.I found it online. Orrin and Elizabeth Avery Edwards lived in Arbela for a time.Their daughter Ella, is my great grandmother.Frank and Elizabeth had another sister, Mary, who migrated to Michigan as well. She didn't have any children by her second marriage.
Eunice Bullocks parents were Daniel Bullock and Charity Avery.William Smith Avery's parents were William(1) Avery and Cornelia Smith. It is thought that Charity and William(1) were brother and sister - I have doubts but yes they are related. The Bullock and Avery family met in Duanesburgh New York around 1800 and migrated up to Stratford. The Edwards line I am researching now is giving me some problems but James W. Edwards father was Samuel Edwards. They lived in Oppenheim New York.By the way - James and Eunice Edwards middle son Daniel was in the civil war and assigned to Pritchard and was on the patrol that captured the confederate president Jefferson. There is a book in the library - can't find name right now - that actually list the soldiers names that were ordered to hold their carbines on Jefferson and Daniels name was listed!
I knew that Roy Avery went to St. Louise and that he had two sisters.I have tried to research them but lost them after one census.Put to one side as they are cousins and not my direct line and children.
There are two other Avery gentlemen who are researching the Avery line. One is in his 80's and lives in NY.He researched the Avery's for 30 years.Out of five researchers in this family line - we can only get back to Amos Avery who disappears by 1830.Other Amos Avery's around but not this family.Frank Avery's youngest brother was Adelbert Avery. He stayed in Stratford all his life.I have a copy of his family pictures showing children and spouses.Frank Avery's mother was Mary Rockwell. Her father was Silas Rockwell and mother Lanah Hemstreet. They are buried in Stratfords Round Top Cemetery. So are William Smith Avery and wife Mary Rockwell.I was told that Lanah's maiden name was Hemstreet and verifed it by visiting the Stratfords Clerks office and saw the burial record that gave her maiden name. What luck.Frank Avery was one of 12 children.Abram Josiah, died in Civil War; Mary Maria who married 1st Dan Galusha, 2nd Moses Moss; Elizabeth who is my great great grandmother; Hannah Lousia, Alvah Smith, Eugene Marshall, Frank who was born April 20, 1852 in Stratford NY; Charles, Emma Gertrude known as Lany, Jerome Daniel and Martha Suffrona, last is Adelbert. There is a road, "Avery Road", named after him, in Stratford NY.Millington and Arbela are in Tuscola County Mich.Saginaw is in Saginaw County.Mary Avery Moss lived in Vassar, Tuscola County.Frank and Estella married in Millington, Tuscola Co, MI.Estella died 3-27-1896.Baby 3-26-1896.
