Avis in East End of London

My grandmother Rebecca Avis Cuthbert was born in 1863 in Mile End Old Town.The name Avis has been used in many branches of the family although there are NO Avis forebears.
Does anyone know of a philanthropist in the East Ean in the 1850's with this name?
