Looking for next generation back

Hi,this is Peter Charles Avis of Ottawa, Ontario (born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada).I am the son of Walter Spenser Avis, orginally of Toronto.I have traced our tree back to my Great-grandfather,George Avis (1846-1886) who was married to Mary-Anne Cole and lived in Harts Lands, Sevenoaks in the south east of England.His son, my grandfather, was Spenser John Avis, who read a travel brochure about peach farming in Ontario and decided to emigrate to Canada.

I wouls like to find out who George's family was.I am also interested to see if their is any truth to the old family story that our ancestors came from France -- Hugenots ejected by Louis XV.Also, I am aware of the order of Avis from Portugal and a source of AVIS family trees there.I would love to piece this together. Any help would be appreciated.
