Sounds like you've been at this Shirley-Avis connection for quite a while. You might want to contact Louis [email protected] as he is the cousin from whom I first rec'd a lot of this information; later on from Denise Bierdicht-Fox (sp?). She has posted a lot of info at the Shirley Association site.

At GenForum, you can easily obtain the person's email by clicking on their name at the site of their message. This prevents unwanted spamming, but allows us esearchers/ cousins to contact each other, which I like much better than the FamilyHistory.com site.

Just found your response to my email. Have not checked my GenForum surname pages for several months.

It is true that They were first in New Jersey, and the AVIS family, I believe lived in Calvert Co. MD (where there are tax records which list both AVIS & SHIRLEY names). A researcher came across an old book on the history of Calver Co. MD which had some of this info.

You might also want to go to the SHIRLEY web site which will list some info about Dorcas AVIS & Walter SHIRLEY.

I wasn't aware of the birth record for Dorcas in Calvert Co. MD which you mentioned. Would love to have that info.
