Re: Ayers in Texas

For Christmas, my father gave his children a book about his life.His grandmother was Nettie Ayers.She had a brother Jim and a sister Hattie.She also had another brother who was murdered.Her father was Daniel.He failed to tell me her mother's name but he but he has a picture of their tombstone and will look at it.Daniel and his wife are buried at the Hillsdale Cemetery in the Izora area.I know my father is from Lampassas so I'm assuming this is the Daniel you are talking about.There are two very distinctive stories about Daniel.The first is that when Daniel died, his wife died 2 days later, "of a broken heart" as the story goes.The second is that he was from the Cumberland Valley area of Virginia.He fought for the Union and wasn't too popular with his family and neighbors and moved to Texas.I believe I remember hearing as a child that he had a brother who fought for the South.

I'm looking for more information myself on Daniel.Don't know if you are still watching this thread or still looking for info on Daniel, but that's what my father shared with me.
