Hi, Alan,
I am glad to see your information re: Jasper Babb and his family. Now I can add some missing information into my family tree.
First of all, Jasper Babb (otherwise known as Jessie B. or Jessie W.) is NOT my direct ancestor. However, his 2nd wife, Sarah, certainly is my direct ancestress (as well as yours, too).
Sarah was Miss Sarah Ellen Barker [January 22, 1852, Ohio-December 1, 1918, Ottumwa, Iowa] (dau. of John Barker from Ohio) who got married three different times. Her first husband was Mr. Cox (first name...unknown at this point). Her second husband was your direct ancestor, Jasper Babb. Her third husband was Scott Stevens, who was my direct ancestor. Sarah Ellen and Scott got married sometime after her divorce from Jasper Babb.
Sarah had children by all of her three husbands. Her son by her third husband, Scott Stevens, named William W. Stevens (July 10, 1885-February 25, 1914) was my great-grandfather on my father's side.
You mentioned in your memo that John W. D. Babb was your great-grandfather. Actually, this John William David Babb was a half-brother of my great-grandfather William W. Stevens.
Both John William David Babb and William W. Stevens are buried at Ottumwa Cemetery in Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa. Their mother, Sarah Ellen (Barker) Cox Babb Stevens, along with her last husband Scott Stevens, are also buried there. Some other Babb and Stevens family members are buried there. My paternal grandparents, Stevens great-grandparents and Stevens great-great-grandparents are all buried there.
This information is just about John William David Babb and a few other Babb members who are buried at Ottumwa Cemetery (info from www.usgenweb.com through Wapello County, Iowa, and its Ottumwa Cemetery burial list).
BABB, infant. 5 January 1910-15 January 1910
BABB, infant of J. W.17 June 1903
BABB, Buck V. 28 June 1907-5 October 1978
BABB, Delbertb. unknown-d. June 1879
BABB, John Wm. DavidMarch 7, 1875-July 29, 1910
BABB, baby (died at 3 days old) May 5, 1894-May 8, 1894
For sure, Delbert and John William David Babb were sons of Sarah Ellen (Barker) Cox Babb Stevens by her second husband, Jasper Babb. The infants most likely belonged to J. W. D. Babb and his wife. I believe Delbert Babb died at a young age (probably in his mid-to-late teens).
If you have further information about your ancestor John William David Babb and his wife and the list of their children, I would appreciate it if you put that information here for me to see. Thank you. Also, any other information about the other children of Jasper Babb and Sarah E. Cox Babb Stevens will be appreciated by me. If that is too much information to put here, just let me know and I will arrange another way to get it.
If you have some questions, just let me know through this website. I will be notified when you sent a reply through this message board.
