Baddeleys of Hackney 1881 - R C H Baddeley
I am researching my wife's forebears - leading back to the family of BADDELEY listed in the 1881 census. The census shows two separate residences - Hanna at 4 Dalston Lane, the mother of Adeline May and Amy Frances, and a separate household at 7 St James Terrace, headed by Emma, with siblingsWalter, Meriel A, Jessie, Lizzie M, and Alfred - all aged between 18 and 28 and all unmarried. Hanna's daughter Ethel Mary is also listed at this address.
Now we know of Adeline, Ethel and Amy, from certificates and photographs. Indeed Amy is my wife's grandmother, marrying David Alfred Johnson later.
The question we are anxious to answer is that of the girls' father - who is supposed in family stories to be a journalist known as R C H Baddeley. Again we have a photo, but no other documentary evidence. Frustratingly the census reveals no lead as to this name. Hanna is given as married not widowed.
If anyone has any information in this area, we would be delighted to hear!
Regards to all
