BADKE Chicago Cook Co IL 1900 - 1920
BADKE BATKE BADTKE BARTKA SCHMIDT
Seeking connections to my grandmother's family.
My paternal grandmother was Paulina BADKE who married Gustav SCHMIDT in Chicago (19May1904) and moved to Bryant, Neva, Landglade Co, WI in 1904
BADKE family came to US ca 1898/1899, in census list their birthplace as Poland/Russia, Germany, or Poland. Gustav SCHMIDT was a boarder in their home and may have also known family in the "old country". He list his birthplace on official paperwork as Tunndaj Russia. Tunndaj is an approximation of the place name as some letters were in a different alphabet.
In the Chicago Cook Co IL census they are listed as BARTKA on Houston Ave in 1900, as BATKE on Ontario Ave in 1910, and as BADKE on East 79th St in 1920
Ludwig (Louis) b. ca 1872
Ernestinab. ca 1867
Paulinab. ca 1889
Emelia (Millie)b. ca 1893
Louisb. ca 1897
Emilb. ca 1902
Lillian (Lina) b. ca 1904
Harriet(Hollie)b. ca 1906
Louis senior worked as a rail straightener in steel mill
Do any of these names sound familiar? Paulina and Emelia were Ernestina's daughters from her first marriage. That husband whose surname was also a variation of BADKE supposedly left her and the children. She then remarried to Ludwig and came to US.
Any information greatly appreciated!
