Hi:
I have corresponded with Becky who I believe is Homer's wife.Do I have that right??It is so nice to share information.I haven't visited this for awhile as I am on a crusade to find my great grandfather, John Yates.Perhaps you knew my grandmother, Bertie Bailey from Tompkinsville. He is her Dad.
I have seen this before, an Omigene Russell and others have told me this.It could be, I cannot say for sure. What bothers me about it is the timing.James P. according to William's Pension File states his date of birth is 11-14-1812.I do believe that George Waddle married William and Elizabeth's daughter Sarah "Sally" Bailey about 1800-1803.Their first child I can trace is Abraham Waddle born either in KY or TN about 1804 and the only other one I have found so far is James Waddle. If Abraham is their son he was born 8 years before James P. and that kind of runs against this other theory.James P. was have been simply been another child in the line.
James P. is listed a William's grandson.Assuming that to be true and I don't doubt it, then I suspect I know who his father is.My great grandfather was Martin Baily, b. 1795 son of William and Elizabeth.I have suspected he may and I emphasis may, as I don't know, be James P.'s father. It took me a long time to figure out who Martin Bailey, b. 1795 wife was and it is his first cousin, Martha "Patsy" Bailey, daughter of Martin and Susannah Bailey. That explains why in the all the records where I have found James P. closely associated with the Martin and Susannah line, yet mentioned in William's Pension file.He was associating with his mother's side.Further, Martin, b. 1795 and James P. are always closely associated and have the same occupations. They has always caught my attention.
This is what I think happened.Martin, b. 1795 was about 16 or 17 when James P. was born and Martin's wife, his cousin Martha "Patsy" Bailey was four years older, say 20/21.I think they were hiding an out of wedlock child, but it was Martin and Martha's child, not George Waddle. There are other records that indicate that Martin and Martha had a son who was about James P.'s age, but I have never been able to pin that down.
As to the Indian and looking like no one else.My wife is part Choctah and looks somewhat Indian. One of her brothers looks even more Indian.Another full brother had Red Hair and Freckles and her full sister was blond and blue eyed.Four kids from the same parents and if you stand them side by side they do not look like siblings.I don't know.I have seen the Indian before, I just don't know.
There is one other possiblity.I stronly suspect that Elizabth Robertson was William's second wife.James P. could be his grandson by a child from the first marriage, but I cannot be sure.Lots of theories floating around.
That is it in a nutshell.I am going back to this line soon, when my quest is over with John, and pursue this harder.I believe I know the county in VA they came from.
My home e-mail [email protected] you want to contact me off this board.
Hopefully someday, we can put this whole thing together, maybe.
