Gail Hollands,

It was in late 2001, our Edward Crabb family discovered that we are not related in any way to this Robert Bailey family in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This posting is very past time in posting but must be posted to make things right. We are related to the Bailey family from Virginia.

Also, Edward Crouch never married our Rachel Bailey, or any other of our Crabb relatives. This was a theory only of one of our Crabb relatives back in 2000, not a fact, but was not believed or supported by us other 20 Crabb researchers.

Plus, our Rachel Bailey that married Edward Crabb died and is buried beside her husband Edward Crabb on the family farm in Pickaway County, Ohio. Our Rachel Bailey never married anyone else other than Edward Crabb.

Our Rachel Bailey is not or ever was related to any Ball family. This is one of those stories in a book that someone wrote and because it was written in a book it was believed to be true even though it is not.

Our Rachel Bailey is the daughter of Jonathan and Mrs. Jenny Bailey and the granddaughter of John Bailey born in Scotland and his wife Mrs. Ann Bailey.

Jonathan Bailey was born about 1730 in the Colony of Virginia and died in Berkeley County, Virginia.
He married Mrs. Jenny Bailey and they had 6 issue:
1. Bazil Bailey b. 1762
2. Thomas Bailey b. 1765 m. Moica or Micah Catlett
3. Joel Bailey b. 1767 m. Rachel Moore
4. Rachel Bailey b. 1768 m. Edward Crabb
5. Rev. John Baileym. Elizabeth Long
6. Elizabeth Bailey m. John Standley

Long ago our online Crabb family researchers known as the Crabby Cuzzins corresponded with the Catlett family so we know this is correct.

The Family of Rachel Bailey and Edward Crabb are:

Husband: Edward Crabb chr 29 Sep 1761 Saint Dominick, Cornwall, England and died and is buried on the family farm in Pickaway County, Ohio.

Wife: Rachel Bailey, daughter of Jonathan and Jenny Bailey, was born 1768 in Frederick County, Virginia, died and is buried in Pickaway County, Ohio.

Married: 1784 near Virginia and Pennsylvania border by a traveling minister and they lived in Berkeley County, Virginia now Morgan County, West Virginia.

Children:
1. Mary or Polly Crabb m. 25 Dec 1807 Ross County, Ohio, Christopher Hullinger
2. James Crabb m. 17 Jan 1814, Margaret or Peggy Blue
4. Stephen Crabb m. 20 Aug 1815, Pickaway County, Ohio, Nancy Mortimore
4. Rachel Crabb m. 13 Dec 1819 Pickaway County, Ohio, Lloyd Norris

Edward Crabb had 1st cousins 1 generation removed in old Lancaster or Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, William Augustus and Thomas Crabb, coming from England to America prior to the Rev. War and settling in Middletown.Edward Crabb shortly visited our William Augustus Crabb family in Middletown, Pennsylvania. He also visited William Augustus Crabb's brother Thomas Crabb in Hagerstown, Maryland, on his way to the Northern Neck of Virginia. Thomas Crabb left Middletown, Pennsylvania to expand their Crab's Tavern or Inn to Maryland. Edward Crabb went across the Potomac River from Hagerstown.Edward Crabb settled in the Northern Neck of Virginia, and on 4/6/1779, purchased 432 acres of land on Middle Fork, Sleepy Creek, Berkeley County, Virginia.Edward Crabb married Rachel Bailey who was living on the land adjoining his land in Berkeley County, Virginia.Edward Crabb and his wife Rachel sold their land in 1801 and moved to Pickaway County, Ohio with their children and family.
