We have a David BAIN, a soldier from Glasgow as well, but our's was much later than your own.Our David was born c1888 Glasgow.Prior to joining up during WWl, he was a 'Flower's Assistant'.His parents were:William BAIN a 'Fruiterer' and Elizabeth BLAND, both born Glasgow according to the 1871 census, c1848 & 1850 respectively. At that time they were residing with Elizabeth's widowed mother [Elizabeth] and siblings John and William.
David married in 1907 Glasgow to Thomasina BROWN (daughter of Andrew BROWN and Martha Jamieson CLARK) born c1891. They had 4 children:William born 1908, John/Ian, Jean and Martha/Matty who was the youngest born c1915.
David died at Arras France 1916/17.Thomasina re-married to Robert STRANG, but she died in March 1922 of complications from childbirth.
The eldest son William, was sent out to Australia c1923.No one heard another word from him until the early 1930s, when he sent my grandfather (his uncle by marriage) a post card saying he (William) was doing well and planned to marry. No one has heard a thing since.William's mother Thomasina was an elder sister to my own grandmother, making William & his siblings my mother's first cousins.
I do know William had at least one child in Australia (from an old posting in April 2000 by a Flora CAMPBELL, with now defunt UK e-mail address), who I've been trying to find for the past 3-4 years.Have no idea of who they are or where in Austalia they are.Nor do I have any idea of where William eventually settled.Until a few months ago, William's youngest sister Matty (married name WALKER) was still alive. She has since passed away.Jean (married name LAKE) died in June 2000, in Glasgow.Have no idea of what became of John/Ian.
