At the time of the 1871 UK Census, George Acland and Anne Moore Baker were residing at:
Address: 52 Cottage, Foxen Holes, West Hill
Census Place: Ottery St Mary Honiton, Devonshire
(Not far from George's parents in law.)
At that time, George's occupation was that of a "Dairyman".
I found the following information on George in the "History of Minnehaha Co." Sioux Falls Township
"BAKER, GEORGE A., is a native of England, and was born on the 18th day of February, 1849. He received a common school education, and worked on a farm until he was twenty-one years of age, at which time he emigrated to the United
States, and for a while resided in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1871 he took up his residence in Rock Rapids, Iowa, and remained there two years. He then removed to South Dakota, and located in this county, taking up the southwest quarter of section 33 in Sioux Falls township, where he has since resided. In addition to this, he has 80 acres of land in Lincoln county, which he also farms. He was chairman of the township board of supervisors during 1896 and 1897. He made a good official, is a good citizen, and an enterprising, progressive farmer."
George A Baker was also a supervisor on the Sioux Falls township board of supervisors during 1890 & 1892 & 1895 & 1899.
George Acland Baker was actually born in 1848 as he was baptized on the 11th of August 1848 at the Anglican Church in Ottery St Mary.
