For several years I have been trying to identify the Elizabeth Baldwin who married Jonathan Stoddard in Spencer in 1761. I believe there is a strong possibility that she was the daughter of Jonathan Baldwin (1696-1761) who died in Spencer. Jonathan Baldwin was the son of Joseph Baldwin and Elizabeth Grover of Malden, Middlesex, Mass.
According to a family group posted on Gendex by Denise Drew, Jonathan Baldwin married Elizabeth Wiswell in Rehoboth, Bristol, Mass. Their children were Jonathan, Thomas, HANNAH, Elizabeth, David, RUTH, Mary, and Deborah. (I believe this information may have been derived from Charles C. Baldwin's The Baldwin Genealogy, 1881) Son Jonathan Baldwin settled in Templeton in 1767 when he bought a saw mill and grist mill--about the same time my Jonathan and Elizabeth Stoddard removed to Templeton.
Jonathan Baldwin (1696-1761) had 3 brothers who also were known to have been in Spencer or Leicester: James, David, and Ebenezer. Although several of these men had daughters named Elizabeth, only Jonathan had daughters named Hannah and Ruth.
I must caution you that I have not yet verified this, but thought it likely that my speculations on this family might be of interest re this thread. One thing I have done (coincidently, about 2 weeks ago) was request a copy of the Worcester County probate administration file for Jonathan Baldwin in hopes that it might name his heirs, particularly his daughters by their married names. I will be happy to post this information once it is received, and would like to correspond with others connected to this family group.
