during a few spare moments I decided to look up the geneaology of my mother's maiden name. She originates from wigan, daughter of Robert and Annie Baldwin. My great grandfather (also Robert Baldwin), his business enterprise and properties feature a lot in local history archives, particularly as he married a femail relative of the Haigh (Earl of Balcarries family). I know that there were approximately 6 siblings in my grandfather's family, all of whom worked in the family businesses, the youngest being Florence Baldwin. I have information that one of my grandfather's brothers/cousins ran away to Canada at the turn of the century, setting up home and business in a place then called "Petrola". He did make a brief visit to Wigan in the 50's, to make a donation to his old school, but that is where the trail goes cold. I much information in the time of the crusades re the Balfour side, and the Baldwin enterprises, and would love to hear of anyone who has any furhter info on Baldwins in Canada, Wigan UK or the Balfours. There is also a close connection with the name of Bibby.
There were three Robertor "Bob" Baldwins in my grandfather's life that I know of. Don't laugh, but they were known as Old Bob (g.grandpa), young Bob (maybe your grandpa) and my grandpa (little Bob)!
