I am looking for information about my grandmother's step-brother, Charles Edward Bales.
Charles Edward's father: John Ellis Bales(b. January 15, 1850, Ray County, Missourid. August 17, 1919 Excelsior Springs, Missouri) married (December 23, 1875) his first wife, Blanch Jane Bryant (b. about 1850 & d. 1873-1875).they had 2 children: David Riley (b. December 5, 1869 & d. December 9, 1874) and Charles Edward (b. September 11, 1872 Ray County, Missouri)
After his first wife's death, John married (December 23, 1875)his 2nd wife, Emma Jane McAdams (b. May 17, 1855 Gilford County, North Carolina & d. February 21, 1939 Jackson County, Missouri). They had 4 children: Jessie Perry, Nancy Jane (my grandmother), Clonia Editha and Ellis Newton.
According to some of my research, there came a time when there was some trouble at home.Charles Edward left for the "West", but was in touch with my grandmother. We have an address in an old book showing, "Charles E. Bales, Hood River, Oregon, RFD 2 803 9th Street".
According to court documents, when John's estate was settled money was sent to Charles Edward at the Fairfax district just over the Missouri/Kansas line in the Fairfax district of Kansas City, Kansas. When I checked the census for then, I found two references to Charles Edward Bales. One said he was not home and the woman there did not know any information about him.
My grandmother said she stopped hearing from him and she always wondered what had happened.
If anyone knows, you can email me at email@example.com
