Alma Ruth Bales Lawson, 79, of Jefferson City, TN, passed away 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009, at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was a Member of First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City for over 50 years. She was the office L.P.N. for Dr. Donald Thompson of Morristown.
Her parents precede her in death, Floyd E. Bales, Sr. and Bertha Thornton Bales; brothers, Floyd E. Bales, Jr. and Bruce J. Bales.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Russell C. Lawson; sons and daughter-in-laws, Gary and Vicki Lawson, Gene and Heather Lawson, and daughter and son-in-law, Joyce (Lawson), and Charles Hawkins all of Jefferson City, TN; grandchildren, Gary R. Lawson II of NY, Paul R. Lawson of Knoxville, TN, Gary and Wendi Brown, Chris and Monika Baker, and Paula Gregg; great-grandchildren, Emilie and Garron Brown all of Jefferson City, TN; many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews; special camping friends of Elkmont; special family Russell’s siblings, Samuel T. and Helga Thornton of OH, Tom and Sharon Ricks of NH, David and Beverly Douglas of Knoxville, TN, John Bales and Jean Hellwege and their daughters, Hope and Anna, all of VA.
The family would like to give a special thanks to: Dr. Richard Antonucci and his staff as well as Morristown Hamblen Hospice for all the care given to Alma in her sickness.
Funeral Services will be held 8 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2009 from Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Doug Wilder officiating. Family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
Family and friends will gather 10:45 a.m, Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens for an 11 a.m. graveside interment service.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to: First United Methodist Church, 2011 Branner Ave., Jefferson City, TN 37760 or to a Church organization of your choice.
