Re: BALGEMANN/PFINGSTEN - Germany
Hello,I am looking for our Wille Family. In my search I found my great great grandfather, Heinrich Wille, working for a Louis Balgemann in York Township, DuPage County, Illinois in the 1880 census.I then looked up the Balgemann name in Rootsweb and found Louis was born in Landesbergen, Hanover, Germany.I looked in this family tree indexand found there were WILLE people in this family tree.I am thinking there is a connection here although my great great grandfather, Heinrich Wille is not listed. There is a Heinrich Wille listed but much younger.I found Heinrich Wille, 50, his wife, Dora, 40, a female named Elsie(Elisabeth),20(born April 8, 1852), a male named Fr (which I think is Fredrich) 7, and Wilhe, a female, 9, on the ship Vandelia, leaving Hamburg on May 4, 1872 and arriving in New York on May 22, 1872. I next find Elisabeth Wille marrying Chas. Meyer at the First Zion Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL on September 27, 1872 so they were in the Chicago area.Since immigrants usually went to an area where they had family or close friends, I am thinking there is a connection. My great grandfather, is on the same ship listed as Carl Meyer. His real name is Johan Heinrich Christian Carl Meyer born December 31, 1838 in Eldena, Mecklenburg, Germany.
The manifest of the Vandalia is very difficult to read but the letter of the name of the town is L, has "berg" in itand the name of the state begins with an H.My great grandmother, Elisabeth Wille Meyer, reported on the 1880 census she was born in Prussia.
If anyone has any information to share with me I would really appreciate a reply.Or, if you are in Hanover, Germany I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.
