Richard W. Ball died on 24 July 1944 when the US Navy PBY Catalina aircraft of which he was the pilot never returned from its last night patrol in the Southwest Pacific.
Although I do not know any more about Richard W. Ball, I have researched quite a bit about his squadron VP-34 and its mission in the Southwest Pacific because my cousin, Henry C. Simmons, Jr., was also a crew member of that missing plane.
I have written a several page research report on what I have found and I would be glad to send it freely to any members of Richard W. Ball's family who might be interested in it. He and my cousin died honorably together in the service of our country and their deeds should be remembered and memorialized.
