WILLIAM BARBER, son of ALLEN BARBER...Orange Co., North Carolina
I am researching WILLIAM BARBER, born circa 1776 in Orange County, North Carolina. It appears that he may be the WILLIAM BARBER who married ELIZABETH DUNLAP on 29 April 1798 in Orange County, North Carolina. He lived in Orange County, NC from 1800, 1810, 1820...moving to Rutherford County, Tennessee sometime during the 1820's.He is then located in Henderson County, Tennessee in 1840.WILLIAM BARBER died either in 1848 or in 1849, for there is an ad in the "West Tennessee Whig", dated November 9, 1849 which states:"October Term, Chancery County, Henderson County, Tennessee, TAPLEY BARBER, Administrator of WILLIAM BARBER's Estate, filed notice that the estate is insolvent; Persons with claims against estate have until May 17, 1851 to file same with him."According to the research that I have conducted on this WILLIAM BARBER and his family, it appears that WILLIAM BARBER and his wife had the following children:
1. JOHN BARBER, Born circa 1803 - Died 10 Oct 1867 in Tishomingo CO., Mississippi. Married MARGARET 'PEGGY' JONES.
2. JAMES BARBER, born circa 1807 - Died 29 Dec 1865 in White County, Arkansas.Married 1st. UnknownMarried 2nd. Ava/Avy MNU.
3. WILLIAM SPENCER BARBER, born circa 1810 - died before 1880 in either Tennessee or Limestone Alabama. Married ELIZABETH 'ELIZA' SITER.
4. TAPLEY A. BARBER, born 10 April 1812 - Died 22 March 1880 in Henderson County, Tennessee.Married 1st. CYNTHIA MNU, Married 2nd. FRANCES A. WILLIS.
5. Unknown Daughter, born circa 1812 Orange County, NC.
6. Unknown Daughter, born circa 1814 Orange County, NC
7. SAMUEL BARBER, born circa 1823 in Tennessee. Married LOUSIA MNU.
It may be that WILLIAM BARBER was married a 2nd. time to someone named RACHEL, though a marriage record has not been located.RACHEL BARBER, age 66 born in NC, was living with SAMUEL BARBER and his family in 1850 Henderson County, NC. She may have been the mother of SAMUEL, since he was the only known child that was born in Tennessee, and appears to be the youngest child of WILLIAM BARBER. TAPLEY A. BARBER and his family were living next door. There was another elderly Barber lady living only a couple of doors from the above mentioned BARBER families. This was REBECCA BARBER, age 82, born in Virginia, living with HENRY HOUSE, age 67, born in SC, his wife ELLEN, age 50, born in Virginia, as well as a daugther named MARY HOUSE, age 17, born in Tennessee, and a son named JAMES HOUSE, age 13, born in Tennessee. This REBECCA BARBER appears to be from the BARBER families of Pittsylvania County, Virginia area.
I am trying to document the marriages of JAMES BARBER, son of WILLIAM BARBER.JAMES BARBER's oldest daughter, MARY BARBER, married JOHN CROCKETT OLINGER in 1854 in White County, Arkansas.JOHN CROCKETT OLINGER was the son of DAVID OLINGER and MAHALIA CYNTHIA CAMPBELL, who were from Wythe County, Virginia, before moving into Scott County, Virginia during the mid-1830's and on to White County, Virginia by 1850.JOHN CROCKETT OLINGER and his wife MARY BARBER OLINGER left White County, Arkansas sometime prior to 1860 and moved to Union County, Illinois.Though I have no located them in 1860 or in 1870, they are listed on the 1865 Illinois State Census of Union County, Illinois. Also living in Union County, Illinois during the years that JOHN CROCKETT OLINGER and MARY BARBER OLINGER were living there was ABRAHAM 'ABRAM' KELLER, as well as many KELLER families who moved there from North Carolina.JOHN CROCKETT OLINGER and his family moved back to Crawford County, Arkansas, during the early-mid 1870's, where JOHN CROCKETT OLINGER must have died prior to 1880, for before 1880, his widow, MARY BARBER OLINGER, married ABRAHAM 'ABRAM' 'ABE' KELLER.
I welcome anyone with knowledge of this BARBER FAMILY, OLINGER FAMILY and KELLER FAMILY, to please either post your information here or email me directly.
Thank you.
