Re: BARNES-LANCASHIRE 1800
One son, Jacob Henry Barnes, born abt. 1803 in Accrington, Lancashire, sailed to N.S.W. Australia in 1837.
He is my gggrandfather. His other siblings' whereabouts were not known. There was a Henry,Robert,Susan,Molly and Peggy. That's what I am trying to ascertain. We know he travelled alone to Australia, but because of the lack of census info. in those early 1800's have not been able to identify his family in the Accrington area after about 1812.His father, Henry Joseph Barnes was supposed to be a blacksmith, but so were many in those days. Henry Joseph Barnes and wife, Ellen, born in Wales, but no confirmation on that either. We do know that there were members of the family still living in England in 1920, as there was a division of a Barnes family inheritance at that time of which part was given to our Australian line.Unfortunately no-one has any material on this episode but the older ones remembered an uncle sailing back to England around 1920 to accept this inheritance.
I have had people searching in England but without success so far.
My mother, once suggested some of the Barnes family had gone to America, but no details.
She now has dementia.
Let's hope we both break these brick walls soon.
