The DAR *used* to accept the Barney genealogy book, "Genealogy of the Barney Family in America," as proof, but in the past few years has sometimes refused to accept it even in cases where it is fairly well documented.
"Genealogy of the Barney Family in America," by Eugene Dimon Preston, published in 1990; pp.153-154: #391. Aaron Barney, Jr., son of Aaron and Susanna (Carpenter) Barney, was born August 17, 1761 at Rehoboth; died August 22, 1819 in New Hampshire. According to the "Grafton Co., N.H. Gazetteer" (1886), "he married twice and reared five children." He married, first, September 7, 1782, Prudence Ford who was born January 8, 1763; died August 16, 1804. He married, second, December 31, 1807 at Hopkinton, N.H., Mehitable Pearson. She is probably the "Mehitable Barney" who married, December 30, 1820 at Grafton, N.H., Seth Bullock. Children of Aaron and Prudence (Ford) Barney:" (10 children total listed: Jemima, Cyril, Susanna, Prudence, Aaron, Bathsheba ("Bashaba"), Hannah, Jarvis, possible additional child born March 29, ____, and Sarah (twin to Aaron) - see information with #1218 Bathsheba, pg. 153 and editor's note 4, pg. 154 for these "possible" last two additional children) pg. 153 - "Editor's Notes: 1. Prudence (Ford) Barney, first wife of #391 Aaron Barney, Jr., was the daughter of William and Jemima (Callum) Ford." pg. 153 - "Editor's Notes: ... 2. Mehitable (Pearson) Barney, second wife of Aaron Barney, was the daughter of Oliver and Hannah (Tenney) Pearson. She was born in 1774 at Newbury, Mass.; died Dec. 31, 1887.
I have about ten other sources for this family, but none that link the parents & children are what the DAR would consider to be primary sources.
For Aaron Barney Jr.: Will dated march 8, 1819, probated march 31, 1819 at Grafton, N.H.
For Aaron Barney Sr.: Will dated Dec. 11, 1817; probated Jan. 10, 1818 at Grafton, N.H. (Grafton Probates A/119)
