Re: Annapolis Valley Barteaux family
Just re-read your message.
My notes say Phillip Barteaux came from St. Hilaire, Isle of Jersey in 1710 (must have been very young) returned to Jersey and then came back to Nova Scotia for good in 1745. His first wife, possibly named Mary apparently died on the ship in 1745 possibly in child birth since their only child that I have heard of was a son William born in 1745.
William married Ann Spurr and he died July 16, 1833.Apparently they still have descendants around Nictaux and Round Hill N.S.
Phillip's second wife was Elizabeth (Betsie) Gould, daughter of a prominent New York Dutch family. They had 3 children that I know of, Thomas born 1770, married in 1793 to Mary Balsor (or Baltzar); and Margaret and Susan who apparently died young and unmarried.Phillip was a Huegenot, an architect to the Board of Ordinance in the British Royal Navy.
That's all I have time for now, but will get back to you again.
Thanks, Ainsley Barteaux Nettle
