Re: Herman Bartelt born 1846 died 1939/Herman Bartelt clarified?
thank you. Judy is my oldest sister, she was born in or near Campbellsport as was my brother Darryl. My mother was Geraldine, her mother was Adelle Bartelt whose father was Herman.
My other sister Connie thinks the Bartelts came from Schonwald which is in the Black Forest in the South of Germany near Switzerland. however I believe they came from the Northeast. I believe your note here which says "Pommern" means Pomerania which is in fact in the Northeast near Denmark and Poland. That was a part of Prussia at the time and of course the boundaries changed alot with wars way back then so many Germans actually lived in what is today Poland.I do have the Bartelt family history that someone put together and note that I think Herman's mother's maiden name was Malikowski, so that leads me even more to think that the Bartelt's came from Northeast Germany.
I am trying to figure out where the connection to Schonwald comes from. Herman's wife was named Siegfried, which also was what I would think is a Prussian name, not south german.
also I believe the Baumhardts were Catholic and came from near Cologne, and the Bartelts were Lutheran and came from the Northeast. The religions would make sense as the regions of Germany they came from are exactly Catholic and Lutheran primarily.
