Virginia, This is the break we were looking for!!!
I have virtually no information on Rev. James Douglas and Margaret Clarke other than that they lived in Northern Ireland near Limavady, Boliva? or Dungiven and their children were Samuel, Jackson, Ann, Elizabeth, Margaret (b.11 Jan 1776), Rebecca, Jane and James.Family history state only that Jackson came to the US sometime around 1798 with his family.
Dau. Margaret married William Bartleman in Alexandria, VA on 12 April 1800.
Dau. Rebecca married Thomas Smyth (Smith) but she died abt. 13 Sept. 1803 in Alexandria, VA.
Son Jackson married Jane Davies (dau. of Rev. Jacob Davies) in Ireland and is rumored to have died in Baltimore, MD shortly after 1798.His sons James and Jacob Davies lived in Alexandria, VA in the early 1800s.
Son Samuel b. 10 May 1781 Newtown Limavady, Londonderry Ireland (d. 8 July 1833 in Ireland?)
Key questions for us... Did Reverend James Douglas and wife Margaret Clarke have any children we overlooked?
Who were Rev James Douglas' parents and grandparents?
What happened to Jackson after he arrived in US/Baltimore/Alexandria after 1798?
Does our Douglas branch trace back to Scotland?
Our direct line flows down through Jackson and we have abundant information if you would like it.Also, Alxandria, VA library has a fantastic historical records section (we live 30 minutes away) with lots of Bartleman information. We would be happy to research for you.
