Susannah Bartlett, wife of John Emery Jr, was daughter of Josiah Bartlett, but not the Gov of NH.Josiah Bartlett was brother of Stephen Bartlett, the father of Dr Governor Josiah Bartlett, second person to sign the Declaration of Independence.Mother of Stephen and Josiah was Hannah Emery and Richard Bartlett.John Emery Jr was a second cousin of Josiah Bartlett through Hannah Emery and Susannah Bartlett was a first cousin.Susannah and John Emery had five boys and two daughters.Four of the Boys became doctors and the other a lawyer.Four of the boys moved to Ohio in the early 1800's and the father and a daughter moved therem too. I the names of the boys in a file somewhere. My complete GEDCOM was lost to a virus. On of the boys, Dr George Reid Emery, b 1791 Walpole NH married (1)Candice Merrells Willey (2) Polly Stevens.Candice was a descendant of Issac Willey and close friend of John Winthrop Jr.The came to America together in 1640 and removed to Danbury together in 1645 to buy land.Candice Willey was also a descendant of John Emery through Ruth Emery on her maternal, Merrells side. One of Dr George's brother's was Josiah Bartlett Emery.I have pictures of Dr George's descendants and of Dr George and his second wife, Polly Stevens and their Graves in KS.You will find my family pictures posted on ancientfaces.com.I posted a very nice picture of Dr George their, taken when he was 62. He lived to be 97 /12.He daughter, Candace Sarah Emery, my gggrandmother, lived to be 96/12 dying in 1922.Hard to image...George was born during the presidency of George Washington.Dr. George married Candace Merrells in 1816 in Geauga Co OH.They lived in Thompson where Canance died in 1826.George took the family to Spencer Ohio in 1833...Nov 13th to be exact. On 15 Jul 1836 the family left Ohio for Illinois where a sister of his second wife, Polly Stevens, lived. They arrived 16 Aug 1836.They homesteaded on the banks of Pink Creek, near Pecontonica on the border of Stephenson and Winnebago Counties.Dr George was the only doctor between Freeport and Rockford for sometime and would visit patients on horseback. He started a school in his house and also a post office.Later he donated a cabin on his land for a school and still later donated land tobuild to New School.Eventually, the post office, Ava, was moved to Pecotonica. At least two of the boys, Milo and "Bartlett" moved to Decorah Iowa.I have a picture of their home in Decorah...you will find a family picture from Decorah on Ancientfaces.com.Dr. George's daughter, Viance Emery wrote and published an account of the family life "Pioneer Life in the Family of Dr George Reid Emery."I obtained a copy from the San Francisco State Library (Sutro) and a hand typed copy from a cousin.I have many pictures to swap as Candace lived a long time and saved quite a few pictures.I have obtained other from "cousins".Regards, Mallory Smith
