This is very interesting! The story in our family is that three brothers came out from England, one settled in Brigus, one settled in Port de Grave area and one went to the Northern Peninsula. In the book of Newfoundland it quotes that Bartletts harbour was founded by a Bartlett and his relative .... Genge. There are Genges in Flowers Cove. These people I think came from the Yeovil area of Somerset. We visited the Bartletts Harbour area this summer but did not spend long enough there to see anything of any consequence. Also records for that area are very sparse. My ancester was William Bartlett who bought land with his brother John in Brigus in 1780. We are still searching for where they came from and if there is any truth in the Northern Peninsula story.
