Carol; I've extracted all the BARTLETTs in VA Census, including variant spellings like BARTLEY, BERKLEY, etc.I'm now extracting the Pers Prop Tax Lists which lists all males over 16 every year from 1782 to past 1850...I've never found anything even close for a John G BARTLETT - either in Henry Co, VA or in RevWar.I think the only place that exists is in a Warren Co, IN history book. If that is the only reference, then it would be suspect...the authors of a number of county history books went on hearsay (or something) that was not based on rigerous research - think of all the researching we're doing today, with everything at our disposal; and think of the research an author would have had to do years ago on so many families - I just don't trust the old histories any more. They're good to start a lead, but the info often doesn't stack up against real records.
Anyway, off my soapbox, I believe Thomas BARTLETT 1790-1862IN father was Garner BARTLETT.Garner went from Loudoun Co, VA to Berkeley Co, VA after the RevWar. He then moved to Montgomery Co, VA - he is in the Montgomery Co 1798 to 1811 PPTL.He left a Will in 1811 Montgomery Co naming children: William, Reuben, John, Thomas, Lydia TOWNSLEY, and 3 not named.I believe this is your Thomas.
What I can't explain is the obituary of Thomas B BARTLETT 1827-1907 which says he was born in Frederick Co, VA. Do you have any thoughts on this?
