This will serve as a formal announcement of the BARTLETT DNA Project and an invitation for any male BARTLETT to participate. We are using familytreeDNA for this service, and you can sign up by visiting www.familytreedna.com/surname_det.asp?group=Bartlett By using the BARTLETT group the price is discounted to $99 for a 12-marker test and $169 for a 25-marker test.
Several of us started this project a few months ago with 6 BARTLETT descendants from Colonial VA BARTLETT lines. Most of us used the 25-marker test.So far we have one 12/12 match, indicating my ancestor (one of the matches was me!!), Thomas BARTLETT c1705-1783 of Richmond Co, VA matches a descendant of Thomas BARTLETT b 1670 of Essex Co, VA.To those of you who follow the VA BARTLETTs, this is a very significant outcome - we have not been able to link these lines on paper. We have 2 more descendants of southern Colonial VA BARTLETTs - if they match, we'll be on our way toward one large BARTLETT family in VA, rather than the different lines we have now.
We're looking for some more participants from the various Colonial VA lines - all male BARTLETTs are welcome (we're doing the Y-DNA or Y-DNA/Plus (for 25-markers) test)I'd also like to open this project up to all BARTLETTs (New England, Old England, Europe, Australia, etc) - perhaps we match back in the old country;>jIf you're from a BERKELEY, BARKLEY, BARTLEY, etc.line, you may want to participate too. (We've seen a lot of different ways to spell BARTLETT)
