S.C. Archives.Newberry County Equity Petitions, Box 32, 1861, #4.(found in Index book for Misc. Newberry Court House records...B-150.) Cyntha Bartlett petitioned the court to have funds made over to her.She filed the petition January 14, 1860. "The petition shows that Cyntha Bartlett married one James Bartlett. That he has abandoned her for three years past, and she is informed he resides in the state of Georgia.Further shows that portion of real estate of her father Martin Longshore was sold by the ordinary of Newberry District for partition. She has no means of support except her own labor, and although her part (of her father's estate) is small, it would in her present condition, afford her much relief. She prays that Elijah P. Lake (the Ordinary) be permitted to pay over to her what she inherited."
