Since no one else has hazarded a reply, I will.I've researched VA BARTLETTs for over 30 years, and have quite a complilation. For the past several years I've been extracting BARTLETTs (and BARTLEY, BERKLEY, BARKLEY) from all of the census records - I already had VA and WV, but now also have NC, SC, GA, TN, KY, MD, AL, AR and partials for other states. In most states I group the counties if they were formed from one another.
The ONLY John BARTLETT I've found in this area is as follows:
[VA-081]. John BARTLETT
-1778, 78, 80 Henry Co, VA; Var Records: John BARTLETT
-1779 &Halifax Co, VA; Court; Sally GLASS – Plaintif against John BARTLETT; Henry BARTLETT and Sarah wife; James BARTLETT[3 separate cases] by an agreement between the parties this suit is dismiss’d [I bet John, Henry, James and Sally are siblings]
-1780 Henry Co, VA; Orders [OBI & II:127] 25 Aug 1780: John BARTLETT was led to the bar by Archelaus HUGHES. BARTLETT stated that he was not guilty of the charges of suspicion of committing a felony. The Court examined witnesses and is of the opinion that BARTLETT is guilty and ought to receive further trial in the General Court
-1781 Henry Co, VA; Orders [OBI & II:142] 26 Jun 1781: [Court paid] To Henry DUNLAP for guarding the prison over John BARTLETT.
Because several other BARTLETTs from Henry Co, VA went to Fayette Co, VA/KY in the 1780s I now believe the above John BARTLETT to be the one in the following records: -1787-91 Fayette Co, KY -1793-96 Clark Co, KY (1792 Clark formed from Fayette) -1797-1801 Green Co, KY
John's children are Joshua b 1778 VA; Solomon b 1780; Margaret 1782; Catherine b c1782; Nancy b 1784 and Lydia b 1794.John appears to be buying and selling a lot of land parcels in KY in the 1790s.By 1796 the transactions include his wife, Priscilla FAULKER.We had always assumed she was his only wife, but it's very possible that she was a second wife.John died in 1801; and Priscilla remarried.
We have matching DNA from John, above; and Joseph BARTLETT, who was also in Henry Co, VA 1787-1790 and then went to TN; and Nathan in Henry Co, VA 1778 and 1782 before traveling with the above John to Fayette and Clark Co, KY (one reason we think they were all from this area).
Anyway, I hope you are still working on this thread, and might have another clue or two...
