Lemuel, his brother Benjamin, and their father Joseph (Esq. aka Lemuel) all moved to Unity, Maine c. 1792.This Joseph was the son of Benjamin Bartlett and Sarah Brewster.
The Unity, Maine Historical Society has a great deal of info.A web search of something like 'Lemuel Unity' will also return a great deal of info.
FYI - my great-great-great grandfather is purportedly the Lemuel (1786-1829) who married Lucy (Bartlett, d. of Andrew Bartlett and Lydia Churchill) in 1807.Family tradition indicates that he was the son of the Lemuel who was born in 1744 and married Mary Holmes in 1786 (he was purportedly the son of Leuel 1715-1792, m. Mary Doty 1742).However, Internet postings state that this Lemuel moved to Hebron/Norway, Maine and there are no marriage or childbirth records for the Lemuel of 1744.
I was able to obtain a certifed copy of their marriage certificate from Plymouth.I also obtained a certified copy of the birth certificate of my grandfather, showing that Lemuel and Lucy were his parents. However, a pretty thorough search of the Plymouth records did not show a birth in 1786 for Lemuel, nor did I find a death certificate for a Lemuel in 1829.
I am now wondering if there is a connection to the Lemuels who moved to Unity from Plymouth, although some of the dates would appear to conflict.I have a few cahins back to Robert Bartlett and toe Mayflower descendants, but would like to prove the Lemuel line.anyone know of the family bible's existence?
