Actually Jim, it's a very long story. Most people in genealogy are looking for relatives in the 1700's & 1800's. I'm looking for the True parents of my Grandfather. He was born April 15, 1913. This has been a wild ride without question. I've been thrown so many curves that I can't begin to tell you. I can't go into it all on here.. but just to allow you to understand this quest... My grandmother passed away this past November. She left me ("to research") the family bible from my Grandfather's side and everything that she had found while living. I keep reaching dead ends. Md says there's no birth cert for my grandfather and Pa advises the same. There is a "christening cert" that they found while both my grandparents were alive that gives a mothers name, father's name and the sponsors. One of the listed "sponsors" was the man who claimed to be his father. That man's mother (my grandfather's grandmother) raised him at her home, and listed herself as "guardian".Would never tell him who his mother was but did say she died of the flu at a young age. I have been all over ancestry.com, genealogy.com and every other site you can imagine. If you think that you can help me, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. That's my work email. I promised My mother that I would do my best to get some answers. I only wish my grandmother had asked me this while living because her input would have been invaluable. Thank you so much for your willingness.
The John BGC Bartlett person is a possibility (far reaching as it may be) because after he died he left 2 lots of land to my grandfather. It was originally willed to the man who claimed to be his 'father' but he had died.I find it strange that Mr Bartlett had an ex wife and three daughters but willed the land to someone other than them. That occured in 1954 or 1956 I believe. It all just makes my head spin.
