I am still looking. Have found two such connections in the last year. Need more to identify which of the Barkleys in NJ(all males) changed their surname to BARTLEY, although not exlusively so. Some documents reflect both surname spellings interchangably. I believe these Bartley left Somerset County NJ in the early 1700s. What is perplexing is the identification of first names more so than the surnames. These people were definitely related to my direct line ancestor, a James Barkley of Orange County, N.Y. (then Ulster County) who settled there in 173o. These relatives in NJ, probably cousins settled there about 1727. They all came from Ireland, were Presbyterians, and most had Masonic connections as well.
