Originally the Barleys immigrated from the north of England to Virgina about 1690.Paris' grandfather, George, was born in Virginia in 1800.In early youth, he went to Kentucky and in 1819 he went to Missouri and settled at Fulton in Callaway Co. He was clerk and recorder, a probate judge, and also a judge of district court.At Fulton, MO, George married Mary Moore, born in Kentucky.George died in Fulton in 1874.

Paris B. Bartley was educated in private schools and nearly completed his senior year in Westminster College at Fulton.After college, he was a contractor for railroad companies for eleven years, keeping his home in Fulton but operating through Southeastern Missouri, Southern Illinois, Northeastern Arkansas, and Western Kentucky. In 1896, Paris bought the Aux Vasse Bank and was the cashier until 1907. He arrived in Helena, MT, 23 Dec 1907 and was connected with the American National Bank as assistant cashier until 1 Sep 1910. At that time, he joined Mr. W.G. Conrad in organizing the Conrad Trust and Savings Bank.Paris was its first cashier and in Jan 1919 was made vice president of the bank. Paris was also president of the Pondera Valley State Bank of Conrad, MT, and president of the Whitehall State Bank at Whitehall, MT. He was elected president of the Montana State Bankers Association in Aug 1920.
On 17 Oct 1893, Moscow, ID, Paris Bartley married Miss Anna Lenoir Harwood, daughter of James and Elizabeth (Sneed) Harwood, of Dover, MO.
