Sourcing John Bartram I in Colonial Pennsylvania.
I am hoping you will join me in a new effort I'm putting forth . So many times we find information all over the web with no source material listed. Or lists of people who site other people's pages as their source. I feel each of us would benefit greatly if sources were offered. This would help those of you who don't have the benefit of large city library's, or are just getting started in research and want to be sure of your facts by checking out these sources where needed.
With John and William Bartrum being as famous as they were there is very little being said of John the Grandfather and his family.I'm from his daughter Elizabeth. The first Bartram from this line, to be born here in America, in 1684. Elizabeth was sister to 4 other children all born in England. Isaac, John, Mary and William. She married John Cartledge whose parents also arrived in America at about the same time. Much about this family can be found from here on out but little is written about John 1.So every source is doubly important. Any source we can find may be the one that gives us the clue to unravel this families history in Europe.
I am hopeful, that as we find the early sources for this American family, both here and in Europe we can share our sources so we can have a much fuller tree.
I will start below with a book you may or may not be aware of:
Passengers and Ships Prior to 1684 Penn's Colony Vol 1

The Welcome Society 0f Pennsylvania

WilliamPage 183
Can be used as proof to when he came into the country. 1682
Tells he came from Ashburn County of Darby England
Also, in this book, you will find information for those who are working on the Cartledge family as well as many other early families connecting back to the Bartrams.
Hope you find this helpful, and I'm looking forward to see what you have to add.
