The correct spelling is "Basye". It is old French Huguenot. Some family members changed the spelling.
The original pronunciation was "bas-SAY", with the accent on the second syllable.
The pronunciation for the past few hundred years, since Edmond Basye arrived in Virginia in about 1670, is "BAS-see", with the accent on the first syllable. It is pronounced exactly the same as the jazz musician, Count Basie.
