Re GilbertBates, father Isaac Bates (DNA)
There is a vast amount of confusion out there re this Bates line, the worst of it seems to be on Ancestry.com, where countless poor souls have linked, this line up with the "Bates Family Of Old Virginia" bunch...this is a total mistake. I would like to have someone who thinks that this particular Bates line is associated with the BFOOV bunch, to explain to me why John Nelson Bates, on the 1880 US Census for Iowa, states that his father Gilbert Bates was born in New York? There is no way that he can be mistaken, surely he knows where his father was born...and it was not in Virginia! Worse yet to compound the error, these same sloppy researchers will say that Isaac Bates, is the son of Isaac Bates and Elizabeth Cannon (again referring back to the BFOOV crowd). A quick check of the DNA test results (markers) at the Bates DNA Project website (via FTDNA)immediately demonstrates that these particular Bates do not share the same Haplotype as the majority of the Bates participants (meaning the BFOOV bunch and the Bates Assoc bunch out of Mass) these Bates are E1b1b1! So please stop making illogical assumptions based only on the similar names involved. [email protected]
