I doubt your "Conclusion" is current, when you say....
"The Frequent claim that Isaac Bates, father of Gilbert,
was the son of Isaac Bates of "Skimeno," York Co., VA is
totally misleading and error."
I have my ear to the ground, and currently I don't hear it.
I'm a little more forgiving of errors in past reasoning.
Before the advent of DNA results, based upon name patterns and locale, it was reasonable to conjecture that 5th generation Issac Bates of "Skimeno" descent was father of Gilbert Bates. Right name, right locale.
Currently, and for years, the following has appeared on
the Bates Web Site:
4. DNA PROVED FOLKLORE -1798 VA RESIDENT MATCHES EARLY NY RESIDENT. As I explained earlier to you, a DNA match indicates the two donors had a common ancestor
LIFTED FROM http://www.bfoov.orghttp://www.bfoov.org
Kit 2787 (VA ancestor) & Kit 2762 (NY ancestor ) match EXACTLY. Tends to proves query published in old "Bates Bulletin," which suggested that ancestors of Gilbert Bates of VA and IN originated in Cape Cod, MA.
Gilbert Bates married Rachel Covey in 1798 in Montgomery Co., VA. DNA of descendant of Gilbert Bates matches DNA of descendant of Bates, who was born in New York in 1664.
